Flirting with Fire (Blue Collar Brothers #1) by Piper Rayne

4 Stars

Madison Kelly has grown a lot since high school, but the stigma of being “Fatty Maddie” is still always lurking somewhere in her subconscious. And being the recipient of a date with her high school crush is just about the last reminder she needs of her not so stellar younger persona.

Mauro Bianco is a firefighter who loves his close knit family and wishes to someday have one of his own, except for his recent distrust of women in general. Meeting Maddie, he is instantly turned off from her seemingly fake friendliness… until she shows him the fire she has underneath all of her people pleasing ways…

I really enjoyed this book! As the first in the brand new Blue Collar Brothers series, I am already completely invested in the Bianco family and the complicated relationships they are about to embark on…

Maddie was a complete nerd in high school who harbored a huge crush on Mauro. And when one of her best friends bids on him for her in a bachelor auction, she is completely mortified at having to face him again. With a date that ends up being a disaster and a half, Maddie decides to cut her losses and never see Mauro again… but fate may have other plans…

Mauro has recently started to become disenchanted with his life and job situation. While he has always loved fighting fires, the dangers of the job and the exhausting schedule have started to get to him. Getting to know Maddie, he realizes that his first impression of her was incredibly unfair, and his desire to embark on a relationship with her may be the one thing he needs to get his life on the track he wants.

This story was a slow burn escape into what happens after high school, and the way people change in the midst of growing up. Maddie and Mauro never would have been compatible when they were younger and less mature, but the more they work together now and spend time together, the more they realize how much they are meant to be…

I loved Maddie and Mauro, they were authentic characters who were a perfect match for each other. With humor, lots of great sex and a desire to be there for each other, they work to move past their relationship hang ups and find the HEA they deserve.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
