3.5 Stars

When Kevin “Nine” Clearwater makes his way to Logan’s Beach to find a brother he never knew existed, he is met with every hurdle imaginable. From growing up rough and forging his own way through life, he meets a woman whose memory will change everything…

Since the death of her parents, Lenore Leary’s life just keeps falling apart more and more. After her latest despairs of losing her parents business and then her boyfriend leaving her, she is sure that she has hit rock bottom… and then Nine shows up in her life and tells her she is in some major danger… and that he wants to help…

Nine is a story of instalove that turns to lost love in a single heartbeat. Kevin and Lenny both have their struggles, but finding someone who accepts them for who they are will change their lives forever… as long as whoever wants Lenny dead doesn’t get to them first…

Lenny is an anxiety ridden woman whose favorite brand of self medication is her trusty bottle of vodka. After losing both of her parents, she has been simply existing through life on her own. And when she comes home to find that her boyfriend has left her, things are about to go from bad to worse. She knows she shouldn’t trust Nine so easily, she has heard the rumors of his brutality many times, but when he shows her nothing but kindness… and a crazy hot attraction, she decides to let him provide the help he promises.

Kevin is a man who has been through some really rough times, but has now found a loyal family with his newfound brother and their devoted group of friends. He starts pursuing Lenny to chase down a lead on a man who stole from him, but what he finds instead is a woman who has the ability to heal every last wound he sustained growing up. But Kevin is hiding things… and when Lenny finds out just what she has gotten herself into, she has to decide if she can trust the man she has come to rely on so much…

Oh man. I really wanted to love this story, and Nine was a character I couldn’t wait to see more of, but in the end I just couldn’t connect with him or his love interest, Lenny. I think the biggest issue for me was the attraction and relationship between Nine and Lenny just didn’t deliver. There was no real heat or excitement involved to fuel it’s development, and I really wanted more for them.

The plot was really well done. With a few twists and a whole lot of suspense, the story flowed and kept me interested. It is always delightful to revisit the King Series and get some glimpses into my favorite past couples, and Nine absolutely delivered with the whole gang and then some!

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
